The Hart Freshman Team opened their season up with the West Ranch Wildcats on March 10, 2005. Hart won 2-0.

Tyler Eyrich got the start and pitched three solid innings. He gave up two hits and struck out three. Jimmy Murphy came in the fourth and closed out the game. He gave up no hits and struck out four. Although the Wildcats were able to get runners in scoring position, the Indians played tough defense and held them scoreless. Both pitchers contributed to the defense with very timely plays as well. Tyler Eyrich started a double play in the second, when he caught a pop bunt and threw the runner out at second as he was trying to get back to the bag. Jimmy Murphy set up a double play in the sixth, when he fielded a bunt and threw the runner out at second. The batter was then thrown out at first.

The Indians had a total of five hits, B.R. Holbrook, Derek Bickford, Michael Montgomery, Trevor Matern and Bryan Lucas. Trevor Matern scored what turned out to be the game winning run in the fifth when he hit a double. Bryan Lucas added an insurance run in the seventh, when he hit a single up the middle.
