Hart vs. Alemany
Hart opens season with 11-1 win over Alemany.
After having their 2 previous games rained out , the Hart JV team officially opened their 2005 Season with an 11-1 win over Alemany. The Hart offense had 10 hits on the day, while starting pitcher, Cameron Stoffel, went the distance in game . Stoffel struck out 4 Alemany hitters and allowed 2 hits in his 5 innings of work. Leading Hitters were Alex Pettee, Jake Hovis, and Mike Cieszko who each had 2 hits on the day. 3rd baseman, Mattie Hernandez added a double and 2rbi's.
In the first inning, Hart jumped out to a quick lead, manufacturing a run after Taylor Maddox singled . After stealing second base, Maddox advanced to third on a fielders choice . With 2 outs, Maddox scored on a wild pitch to put the Indians ahead 1-0 in the top half of the first inning.
Hart added 2 runs in the second inning , taking advantage of errors made by the Alemany defense. Adams Reyes reached base after being hit by a pitch. With one out , Mattie Hernandez drew a walk to put runners at first and second. The runners then advanced into scoring position after a wild pitch. Then in an unusual sequence, Alex Pettee struck out with the ball getting away from the Alemany catcher. Pettee advanced to first safely and on a throwing error from the catcher to first base, both Reyes and Hernandez came around to score putting the Indians up 3-0 after 2 innings of play.
The Indians made their most noise offensively in the top of the 4th , getting 5 runs on 5 hits.
Brian Klocko started the rally with a one out single. Adam Reyes then followed with a single to left field. Mattie Hernandez then reached base safely on an error by the shortstop , scoring Klocko for the Indians first run of the inning. With runners in scoring position , Pettee then lined a single to left scoring two more Hart runs. Left fielder Jake Hovis then drilled a double up the right field alley scoring Pettee all the way from first base.
Mike Cieszko then closed out the Indians scoring , lining a single to left to score Hovis and put Hart ahead by a score of 8-0.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, right fielder Jason Rehhaut provided the defensive gem of the day . After being shut down by Stoffel over the first 3 innings, the Alemany leadoff hitter came up the plate and lined the first pitch he saw to deep right center field. Getting a great jump on the ball, Rehhaut ran the ball down and made a great over the shoulder catch, crashing into the right field fence, to record the first out of the inning and shut down any hope that Alemany had to get back into the game.
The Indians closed out their scoring in the fifth, scoring 3 times . After Jason Rehhaut reached safely on an error, Brian Klocko drew a walk to put runners on first and second base. Adam Reyes then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt advancing both runners into scoring position. Mattie Hernandez followed with his first hit of the day, driving a 2 run double over the center fielders head. Hart scored their final run of the day when Pettee doubled home Hernandez for an 11-1 lead. Stoffel then shut down Alemany in the bottom half of the inning to seal Hart's first victory of the season.
