Game Highlights
Hart vs. El Camino
After winning their first two games on the road, Hart was unable to come out on top in their first home game of the season, losing to El Camino 7-1. Having a number of opportunties to score during the first six innings of the game, Hart was unable to get key hits, stranding 8 runners on base . Offensively, Hart had 3 hits on the day. Cameron Stoffel had 2 hits and Alex Pettee added 1. Starter Tim Plante battled through a tough El Camino lineup, allowing 3 runs over his 5 innings of work.
In the first inning , El Camino threatened to score, but the Hart defense came up with key plays to keep El Camino scoreless . Jake Hovis threw out a runner at the plate for the first out of the inning. Third Baseman , Mattie Hernandez, also had an unassisted double play grabbing a line drive and stepping on third to end the inning. In the Hart half of the first, Adam Reyes walked and quickly stole second base. The inning came to an end when Reyes was cut down trying to score on an infield grounder.
After falling behind in the 3rd on an El Camino solo homerun, Hart threatened to tie the game after Cameron Stoffel led off with a line drive single to center, that the centerfielder misplayed into a two base error . Unfortunately, the Indians left Stoffel stranded on third to end the inning.
El Camino took at 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Hart tried to answer in the 4th, getting their first two hitters to reach base safely. Alex Pettee lead off with a single to right field, and Jake Hovis drew a walk to put runners at 1st and 2nd. The Indians once again were unable to deliver a key hit, stranding two more runners on base to end the inning.
In the 5th, Tim Plante did a great job working his way out of a bases loaded jam to keep the Indians close as the Indians came to bat. The Indians cut El Camino lead in half , manufacturing a run after a leadoff single by Stoffel. Hart took advantage of 2 errors as Stoffel came around to score on a groundball that was misplayed by the El Camino shortstop. Again, having a chance to tie or take the lead, Hart stranded Maddox and Hernandez , as Alex Pettee flew out to left to end the inning.
El Camino answered in the top of the 6th adding one run to put the score at 3-1 entering the bottom of the 6th. Jenzen Torres came in to relieve Plante in the top of the 6th.
After a leadoff walk to Jake Hovis , Jenzen Torrez drew a walk with one out to put runners at first and second . The inning ended on a hard hit ball off the bat of Cameron Stoffel that the El Camino infield turned for a 6-4-3 double play.
El Camino pulled away in the 7th scoring 4 times to put the score at 7-1. Hart went quietly in the bottom of the seventh, losing for the first time this season.
