Hart vs. Golden Valley
The Indians opened the Hart JV tournament today with a 10-4 win over Golden Valley. Down 4-3 going into the sixth inning, Hart scored three times in the 6th and 4 times in the 7th for their second consecutive come from behind victory. The Hart offense had one of its most productive games of the year , getting 14 hits. Leading Hitters on the day were Brian Klocko ( 3 singles) , Alex Pettee ( 2hits, 2rbis), Tim Plante ( 2 singles), Jenzen Torres ( Single, Double, 1rbi), and Adam Reyes ( 2singles, 2 Sb, 2 rbis). Alex Pettee picked up the win in relief of Starting Pitcher Jeremy Whitcomb, who threw 3 1/3 solid innings for the Indians.
Hart jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the 1st after Leadoff hitter, Adam Reyes, drew a walk and quickly stole second base. After advancing to third on a fielders choice, Alex Pettee drove a ball to deep left field for a run scoring sacrifice fly to put Hart ahead 1-0.
Golden Valley answered in the bottom of the 1st , scoring 2 runs on 3 hits.
In the top of the 3rd, Hart took back the lead , getting Rbi singles from Tim Plante and Jenzen Torres. The score of 3-2 held up until the Golden Valley half of the 4th inning, when the Grizzlies scored twice off of Whitcomb. The Grizzlies took advantage of 3 walks and a single in the inning to take the lead. Alex Pettee came in relief for Whitcomb with one out in the bottom of the 4th to shut down any chance of Golden Valley adding to their lead.
Hart threatened in the top of the 5th, after Tim Plante singled with one out. Catcher Jenzen Torres then drove a ball past the right fielder for a double , advancing Plante to 3rd base and put the tying and go ahead runs in scoring position. Mattie Hernandez then drove a ball to center field to end the inning , leaving 2 runners stranded and the score still in favor of Golden Valley . At this point, Pettee took control of the Golden Valley offense , basically shutting them down in order over the next 3 innings .
Hart took the lead back in the 6th inning. Brian Klocko led off with a single to right field and promptly stole second base. After a perfect sacrifice bunt from Logan Foley, the Indians had the tying run at third with Adam Reyes coming to the plate. Reyes drove a ball up the middle for a run scoring single to tie the game 4-4. Jake Hovis then beat out an infield grounder. Alex Pettee came through in the clutch doubling down the right field line, scoring Reyes and putting Hart back ahead. Jason Rehhaut followed with a sacrifice fly to center field , scoring Hovis and getting the Indians a 2 run lead heading into the 7th inning.
In the 7th, the Indians had one of their best offensive outbursts of the year, scoring 4 times, and getting consecutive base hits from Mattie Hernandez, Brian Klocko, Logan Foley, and Adam Reyes. Foley and Reyes had the key hits of the inning, both getting 2 run scoring singles to make the final score 10-4.
Hart plays a doubleheader tomorrow against Saugus and Valencia .
