Game Highlights
Hart vs. Saugus
Hoping to split this weeks 2 game series, the Indians wasted a 16 hit
offensive attack in losing to Saugus 9-5.
While the Hart offense seemed to generate enough base hits , defensively the
Indians couldn't get the job done, as they committed 6 errors to let Saugus
come away with the victory. Starting Pitcher , Tim Plante , went 2 2/3
innings , giving up 6 unearned runs. Alex Pettee finished in relief
allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Offensively, Mattie Hernandez was 4 for 4 on
the day with an rbi. Brian Klocko , Cameron Stoffel, Adam Reyes, Jake
Hovis, and Jason Rehhaut each added 2 hits a piece.
Coming out with alot of energy , Hart jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top
of the 2nd inning. After Jason Rehhaut singled and stole second base ,
Mattie Hernandez came up with 2 outs and delivered a line drive single up
the middle to put the first run of the game across the plate. Hoping to
hold the lead in the bottom half of the inning, Hart defensively didn't
make the plays allowing Saugus to put 5 unearned runs on the board
against Starter Tim Plante. In the inning, Saugus managed 3 hits, but
really took advantage of 3 errors. In the bottom of the 3rd, Saugus
added to their lead after a leadoff double , in which the runner eventually
scored from 3rd on a pitchers balk.
In the top of the 4th, Hart got back in the game , cutting the Saugus lead
to 6-4 . Cameron Stoffel singled to lead off the inning. With one out,
Mattie Hernandez singled to left field. Brian Klocko then followed with
an rbi single , putting runners at first and second with one out. Adam
Reyes then laid down a drag bunt which the pitcher bobbled , allowing the
Indians to load the bases. With 2 outs, Jake Hovis came to the plate
with a chance to cut the Saugus lead . Battling into a 2 strike count,
Hovis delivered a line drive single to center scoring Hernandez and Klocko
to make the score 6-4 heading into the bottom of the 4th.
Unfortunately, Saugus answered , scoring 2 runs off of Relief Pitcher ,
Alex Pettee , to put the Hart deficit back to 4 runs.
In the top of the 6th, Hart scored their last run of the day after Adam
Reyes led off with a double. After a walk to Hovis with one out, Alex
Petee doubled home Reyes. With runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out,
the Indians had another great opportunity to cut into the Saugus lead.
With Jason Rehhaut at the plate, any hopes of a Hart comeback were quickly
doused on strange double play . Off a hard smash up the middle which the
Saugus pitcher managed to glove, both Jake Hovis and pinch runner Andrew
Marin were tagged out at 3rd base to end the inning and the potential Hart
rally.
After Saugus added a run to their lead in the 6th, Hart came up empty in
the 7th to end the game and put their Foothill league record at 2-4 and
their overall season record at 9-8 on the season.
Hart next travels to Burroughs for a 3:15 game on Tuesday April 19th.
