Hart vs. Burroughs
Anxious to break their 5 game losing streak, the Indians came out with alot of energy and unleashed a 12 hit offensive attack in dominating Burroughs today by a score of 13-3 at Burroughs. Held scoreless over the first 3 innings and trailing 2-0, Hart broke through for 13 runs over the last 4 innings of the game. Pitchers Cameron Stoffel and Jeremy Whitcomb combined to limit Burroughs to 1 unearned run . Whitcomb was strong in his 3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed only one walk and set down the Burroughs lineup in order in 2 of his 3 innings of work. Offfensively, Mattie Hernandez , Adam Reyes, and Mike Cieszko each had 2 hits. Hernandez and Reyes hits included doubles. Jason Rehhaut, Alex Pettee , and Jake Hovis also added doubles on the day.
After being set down in order by the Burroughs pitcher over the first 3 innings and trailing 2-0, the Indians broke through in a big way in the top half of the 4th. Adam Reyes led off with a double down the left field line. After Logan Foley advanced Reyes on an attempted drag bunt, Alex Pettee came up with 2 outs and doubled home Reyes to get Hart on the board.
Pettee's double started an Indian Hit parade, as the next 4 hitters had a base hit to stake the Indians to the lead. Jason Rehhaut followed Pettee with an rbi double over the left fielders head. Mattie Hernandez then singled home Rehhaut to give Hart the lead. Tim Plante then had an infield single to put runners at first and 3rd. Mike Cieszko then singled home Hernandez for the 4th run of the inning putting the Indians ahead 4-2.
After Burroughs answered with a run in the bottom of the 4th to cut the lead to 4-3, the rest of the day belonged to the Hart offense. In the 5th , the Indians put one run on the board after a one out walk to Adam Reyes. Reyes came home on an rbi double by Jake Hovis.
In the 6th , Hart scored 5 times, essentially putting Burroughs out of the game. After Jason Rehhaut and Mattie Hernandez were hit by pitches to lead off the inning, Mike Cieszko, Brian Klocko, Adam Reyes, and Logan Foley followed with rbi singles to put the lead at 10-3 after 6 1/2 innings.
Hart closed out their scoring in the 7th , getting 3 more runs to put the final score at 13-3.
Highlights of the inning were back to back doubles by Mattie Hernandez and Tim Plante.
Hernandez double was a deep fly ball to left center field that one hop bounced over the fence for a ground rule double. Plante had a 2 rbi double that scored the Indians final runs of the day.
Hart is now 3-4 in Foothill league play and hosts Burroughs on Thursday at 3:15 pm
