Game Highlights
Hart vs. Moorpark
It was all "team effort" today at Moorpark, as Hart played errorless baseball.
Hart opened the first by loading the bases with singles by Matt Valaika, Shane Carlson and Pat Sarkissian. Matt Sreden then singled to drive in 2.
Hart picked up 2 more runs in the 3rd.Matt Valaika was hit by pitch. Shane Carlson blooped a single to right. Ryan Gagnon walked loading the bases. Sarkissian hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Valaika, and Sreden doubled to center scoring Carlson.
Sreden was 2 for 2 with a walk, double and 3 RBI's. Carlson was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Valaika was 1 for 3 with a HBP, and 2 runs scored.
In the 6th inning Shane Carlson playing 3rd, charged in on a bunt and made a perfect bare handed pickup and cross the body throw to first to nip the speedy runner Tyler Ziegler by an eyelash.
The next hitter Brett Hunter hit a shot up the middle, and Kevin Baker made a beautiful stop going to his right and made the throw to first to nip the runner.
Ryan Gagnon in left and Ryan Pettersen in center made great catches running down fly balls. Tyler Fick made a great play in right. Robert Van Scoyoc making the stretch at first in the late innings was the difference between an out and a hit.
Matt Sreden at catcher was digging swinging strike 3's out of the dirt all day.
The pitching was great. Tyler Fick started and sailed into the 3rd inning giving up only 1 hit and had a 4-0 lead.
In the 3rd after an opening strikeout, doubles by Chris Tucker and Ryne Intlekofer scored 1. Then Cody Dee hit a bomb off the 8th inning marker on the score board in right field for a 2 run homer cutting the lead to 4-3.
Fick got a 1-2-3 inning in the 4th, then walked the leadoff batter in the 5th and he was replaced by sophomore Donny Williams.
Williams a right hander who throws "submarine" style, got a long fly to center but Cody Dee singled to left. Then with 2 on and 1 out, a sharp grounder towards short took a bad bounce off Valaika's glove, but Matt Valaika turned what could have been a critical error into an out at first with a great "bullet" throw.
A sharp liner to right was then run down by Tyler Fick and Hart had escaped the inning unscathed.
Williams pitched a perfect 6th with the help of the great plays by Carlson and Baker, then capped it off with a strikeout.
In the bottom of the 7th Tyler Lyon took the mound to try and close it out. He had the crowd Oohing and Aahing when he struck out the first 2 batters. But then with 2 strikes on leadoff batter he hit Ryne Intlekofer, bring up Cody Dee the potential tying run, who had already homered and singled. Lyon got Dee to hit a major league popup up on the infield that was gathered in by Matt Valaika.
Hart had a win in the book, and it definitely was a team effort. Hart next plays vs Alemany at Hart Monday March 7 at 3:15pm. Makeup of Friday's rainout.
