Game Highlights

Hart vs. Dos Pueblos

Tyler Lyon started for Hart and looked good in the first inning getting 2 strikeouts and a pop up on the infield. In the top of the 2nd, with Hart leading 5-0, Lyon ran into immediate trouble. Joe Mezzetta drilled a double down the left field line. A walk and a hard single to left center by Danny Cavalleto scored 2, making it 5-2. With a 2-0 count on the next batter Casey Yokubaitis, Tyler Lyon signaled the bench that he had an arm problem. It looked like it could be his elbow.

He was immediately relieved by Junior Nick Streit making his varsity debut. Nick walked Yokubaitis, then got the first out of the inning a fielders choice. He followed with another walk to load the bases, putting the lead run in the batters box. The next hitter Ryan Bosch then struck out on a ball in the dirt that was blocked by catcher Pat Sarkissian in front of the plate. The batter started running towards 1st, but since first base was occupied with less than 2 outs the runner couldn't advance to 1st. Since the bases were loaded, Sarkissian stepped on the plate. Somehow the other base runners must have been confused because they all started running. Sarkissian only had to stand at the plate and the runner coming down from 3rd, embarrassingly accepted the tagout for a Strike out caught stealing double play, ending what could have been a big threat by Dos Pueblos.

In the 3rd Nick got 2 quick outs then walked the next 3 batters to load the bases but got out of the inning with a strikeout. In the 4th he got 2 quick outs then gave up a bunt single, followed by a walk. Then a passed ball off to the left was completely lost by Sarkissian and Ryan Bosch scored all the way from 2nd.

Streit gave up only his 2nd hit in the 5th and his 6th walk but escaped the inning unscathed.

In the Hart first they faced a sophomore pitcher named Pablo Salas and Hart made short work of him as Hart batters raked him for 5 singles by Matt Valaika, Shane Carlson, Ryan Gagnon, Tyler Fick & Donny Williams, a walk (by Pat Sarkissian) and Sacrifice Fly by Andrew Briggs for 5 quick runs. Salas was then relieved by another Soph. pitcher named Ryan Tirador. Tirador seemed to restore order as he got 6 of the next 8 batters, hitting only Shane Carlson and walking Ryan Gagnon. But in the 3rd walked Williams who then advanced to 3rd on a bad pickoff throw. Brian Charnock in his debut for the varsity blooped a single to center scoring Williams. When Kevin Baker followed up with a single, Tirador was relieved by a 3rd straight Sophomore named Casey Yokubaitis who got 4 straight outs.

With 2 out in the bottom of the 4th, Tyler Fick got his 2nd hit of the game and Andrew Briggs got his first varsity hit, a booming double to right center scoring Fick. In the 5th Hart started up on Yokubaitis. Charnock and Baker singled and then Valaika doubled them both home. Shane Carlson flew out deep to center advancing Valaika who then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Gagnon.

Finally in the bottom of the 6th with the game well in Hart's grasp, Dos Pueblos brought in Senior Brett Sanford who pitched a scoreless 6th.

In the top of the 6th Derek Sedam came in to make his Varsity debut, and he did not disappoint. He struck out the first batter then got a pop up and a grounder to short. In the 7th he walked the first batter, then hit the second. He then proceeded to get 2 strikeouts and a deep fly to left to end the game and give Hart a 10-3 victory.

Several players made their Varsity debut including Nick Streit, Brian Charnock and Derek Sedam all did exceptionally well. Andrew Briggs who played his first game yesterday vs Alemany had a great game with a double and sacrifice fly for 2 RBI's.

Hart is now 2-0-1 on the season. Dos Pueblos is 1-2 on the season in the Easton Southern California Showdown.

Hart next plays vs El Camino at El Camino (located in Woodland Hills) Thursday March 10 at 3:00pm.
