Game Highlights

Hart vs. Canyon Springs

Hart (8-2-1) traveled to Canyon of Anaheim and played Canyon Springs (Now 11-2). This was the first game of Pool play in the Caliber Motors Orange County Select Easter Tournament.

The game seemed out of reach in the first inning when Canyon Springs scored 4 runs before anyone was out. A single, double, 2 walks a HBP and an error, batting around before starter Steve Burton could get settled down. Hart however came back in the 2nd: Matt Sreden singled and with 1 out, Brian Charnock lined a homer deep to left. Andrew Briggs walked, went to 2nd on a bad pickoff throw and scored on a double to the 390 foot sign in dead center by Donny Williams. Shane Carlson then doubled to deep left. Kevin Baker walked. Pat Sarkissian then singled in Carlson for the 5th run and Hart had a 5-4 lead.

But that was it for Hart. Canyon Springs scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on 3 walks an infield single and a hit by pitch. Jason Rehhaut relieved Burton to get the last out as they sent 8 more men to the plate in the 2nd. The Canyon Springs pitcher Ryan Selden settled down for the next 3 innings, but CS put up 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd against Rehhaut. 10 men went to the plate. They got 2 doubles, 3 singles a walk and another HBP. By the time the 3rd ended, each batter in their lineup had been to bat 3 times.

Rehhaut gave up another run in the 4th on a triple & single, then 2 more runs in the 5th on 2 singles an error and a sacrifice fly. Robert Seldon relieved his brother Ryan in the 5th and Hart tried to get something going. Andrew Briggs walked. Donny Williams singled Briggs to 3rd. Williams took 2nd on a wild pitch. Shane Carlson hit a sacrifice fly scoring Briggs. Ryan Gagnon singled in Williams, but the inning ended on a fly out. In the bottom of the 6th with the score 15-7, Hart brought in Freshman newcommer to the varsity Jimmy Murphy. Murphy was promptly greeted by Robert Selden with a line shot double, but Murphy got out of the inning getting a pop up foul to the catcher and 2 fly outs to the outfiled. Shane Carlson was 2 for 3 with a double, sacrifice fly and 2 RBI. Brian Charnock hit his first varsity homer and had 2 RBI's. Ryan Gagnon was 2 for 4 scoring 2 runs. Donny Williams was 2 for 3 scored 2 and had a double.

Matt Valaika pulled a hamstring in the 2nd West Torrance game last Monday and did not play. The Anaheim Canyon Comanches field was in its usual pristine condition. The scoreborad is hard to read when the sun shines on it. It looks like a football scoreboard, modified for baseball. Final score Canyon Springs 15 Hart 7.

Hart next plays Canyon of Anaheim at Canyon of Anaheim on Monday 4/4/05 at 3:00PM.
