Game Highlights

Hart vs. Saugus

Hart played Saugus today at Hart today and it was similar to the game when they lost to Saugus on Tuesday March 15 by a score of 10-0 at Hart. This time Hart lost 9-0. Thomas Milone was again the winning pitcher going 6 innings giving up 5 hits. Travis Babin pitched the 7 for Saugus giving up 1 hit.

Errors did Hart in today. Tyler Fick started and the first batter for Saugus reached on an error. After a hit batsman and a single by Milone, Saugus had the bases loaded and None out. Fick got a strikeout and pop up and looked like he was out of the inning, but a sharp single to center by Julian Cruz scored 2 runs and that turned out to be all Saugus needed.

Fick righted the ship in the 2nd and 3rd, although another error after 2 out in the 3rd was followed by a single, Fick escaped, but the extra pitches were taking a toll on Tyler. In the 4th with 2 out another error prolonged the inning and then singles by Dan Hughes and Milone scored the 3rd unearned run. In the 5th, the roof fell in on Hart. Fick walked 3 straight batters, although the first batter was erased on a caught stealing. A single loaded the bases and Fick was relieved by Derek Sedam. Sedam hit the first 2 batters he faced and then gave up a 2 run double to Casey Stevenson. A single by Hughes and a sacrifice fly by Milone scored 2 more. After another hit batter, Nick Streit came in to get a strikeout. Saugus had scored 6 runs in the 5th and now led 9-0. Streit gave up 2 singles in the 6th and got the side out in the 7th.

Hart batters again could not solve Tom Milone. Hart's best chance was in the 2nd. Ryan Gagnon singled to 3rd, and then was picked off first by the pitcher. Matt Sreden singled. After Donny Williams flied out, Andrew Briggs was awarded first on catchers interference. Brian Charnock singled to load the bases, but a ground out ended Hart's only threat of the game. Tyler Fick was the losing pitcher, suffering his first loss of the season he is now [4-1].

On Tuesday April 12 Shane Carlson broke the Hart Consecutive Game hitting streak getting a hit in his 16th straight game against Saugus. Today, Shane Carlson was on deck in the 7th when Jenzen Torres grounded out to 2nd to end todays game, and did not get a chance to extend his record hit streak to 17 games. Shane went 0 for 3. He just missed getting a hit in the 1st when he hit one over 3rd in the 1st inning, that was ruled foul. He later struck out. He popped to second in the 3rd, and then in his last at bat in the 5th he lined out "hard" on a leaping catch by Saugus 3rd Baseman Andy Parr.

Hart's record is now 10-6-1 (3-3 in the Foothill League). Hart next plays Burroughs on Tuesday April 19 at Hart at 3:15pm.
