Game Highlights

Hart vs. Burbank - Double Header

Tyler Fick won Game 1 with little trouble going 5 innings striking out 9. Derek Sedam finished up the last 2 innings. Once again when playing Burbank at Burbank, Hart set some offensive records. Hart had 10 doubles in the game breaking the record of 9 against Valencia on 4/30/1996. Matt Sreden had 3 doubles tying the record set 5 times by Chris Wright vs University in 1998, Tim Hutting & Jeff Gaeta vs Burbank in 1998, Bill Susdorf against Arlington in 2001 and Ian Feldman against Burbank in 2003. Kevin Baker had 2 sacrifice Flies tying a record set by, Joe Deschryver in 1988, John Aguilar 1991, Ted Kiester 1992, Mike Bland 1996, J.T. Stotts 1998, Danny Williams 2003 & Robert Van Scoyoc in 2004. 6 of the 10 doubles were hit over the wall for ground rule doubles in center and right center, and some would have been out if the game was at Hart. The wind was blowing pretty strong so that helped. Matt Sreden drove in 2 runs with his 3 doubles. Brian Charnock had 2 doubles and a single and drove in 5 runs. Tyler Fick was 3 for 4 with a double. Jenzen Torres had a 3 run double. Shane Carlson had 2 hits.

After the Burbank seniors got their awards, the 2nd game started. Hart was the Home Team in this one as a result of the game being made up from a rainout at Hart back in March. Burbank jumped on Hart starter Steve Burton for 2 unearned in the top of the 2nd. Hart came back with 8 runs in the bottom half of the 2nd highlighted by a 3 run line drive homer to left center into traffic on Glenoaks Blvd. by Shane Carlson. Carlson had a 2 run double and Brian Charnock a 2 run triple in the 3rd as Hart scored 5 more. The rout continued as Hart got 3 doubles by Matt Valaika, Matt Sreden and Brian Charnock for an additional 4 runs in the 4th.

Steve Burton settled down after the Burbank outburst in the 2nd and left after the 5th with his 4th win against 2 losses. Nick Streit finished up the 6th and 7th. Nick also had an RBI single in the 6th for his first varsity hit driving in Shane Carlson who had doubled. Brian Charnock came up in the 6th, a homer shy of the Cycle, but hit a flyball to right. (Ya gotta hit 'em to left to get a homer at Burbank... Crazy field...). Brian was 3 for 4 (single, double and Triple) so had 6 hits for the day. Shane Carlson was 3 for 4, 2 doubles a homer and 6 RBI!!! Shane now has 42 hits on the year. (The record is 50 set in 1999 by Tim Hutting and Ryan Haag). Shane has at least 2 games left in the season, counting 1 sure playoff game. Shane is currently hitting .488. Matt Sreden was 3 for 4 with a double his 4th double on the day. Pat Sarkissian was an Iron Man today catching all 14 innings of both games. Matt Sreden is relegated to DH'ing due to a bad knee. Kevin Baker was 2 for 2 scoring 3 runs and had a good day fielding his position at 2nd base. Many grounders on the Burbank infield took bad bounces. The field was hard and high bouncers were the rule for the day both in the infield and outfield. Steve Burton and Derek Sedam had a chance to bat for the first time this year.

Hart will play Burbank Friday May 13 at 3:15pm at Hart. The Seniors (Shane Carlson, Matt Sreden, Brian Charnock, Ryan Pettersen, Ryan Gagnon, Tyler Fick, Kevin Baker and Derek Sedam) will be playing their final regular season game. Hart is now 16-8-1 (9-5 in the Foothill League).
